Life groups are one of the main ways we live out our mission at Open Door of leading people in the adventure of becoming like Christ. As a life group leader, you will have a front row seat in this adventure. A life group is a group of approximately 8-12 people who are intentionally committed to one another and the adventure of becoming more like Jesus. Your role, as a leader, will involve many different responsibilities. You will over-see a weekly or bi-weekly gathering that will involve a few simple elements:
Social time– We refer to this as “Building relationships”. This is a key value to us. We believe people engage and share more as their relationships grow. Jesus modeled this during his whole ministry.
Food– It can be a snack. It can be a full blown meal. The fact is that food is a great ice-breaker and also a great way to get others involved in serving the group as they commit to bringing items.
Discipleship– Our groups center this time around the Word and Prayer. That’s how we connect with God and therefore we want our groups to spend most of their time here. Some review sermon questions. Some have a private Bible study. Others center their group around an activity or hobby The main focus is that each group is centered around hearing from God (His Word) and speaking to God (prayer).
